Summary

Based in central Europe, DNA Kit is a brand that offers DNA testing and kits for a pretty low price. Using their kit, you’ll use cytobrushes to scrape for buccal cells, which their lab will then test for a variety of tests including paternity, ancestry and disease screening. The tests are non-invasive and are suitable for both human and animal/pet testing.

How It Works?

Like most DNA kit service, the process of getting your DNA sample to sending it over to the DNA Kit center is really simple. After placing your order and paying for the kits, you should receive your kits within 6 to 10 days at most. Each kit comes with 2 sterile cytobrushes. These brushes feel quite like your generic toothbrush but they are much better than cotton swabs in collecting your cell samples.

Before collecting your buccal (inner cheek) cell samples, you need to ensure that you have not eaten, or drank anything around 15 minutes prior to taking the sample. When you take out the brush from the sample, you need to make sure the sterile brush doesn’t touch any other surface other than your inner cheeks. Brush between the cheek and gums for around 10 times in an up and down motion, while making sure that all sides of the brush is coated.

Dry the brush by gently waving it in the air for 30 seconds before putting it into the enclosed envelope. Repeat the same steps for the other cytobrush. This brush is the “spare sample” just in case anything happens to the first one. Similarly, make sure to dry your DNA sample before sealing the envelope and sending it to the lab.

Price

Priced at 11 Euros for 10 swabs which is equivalent for 5 samples, DNA Kit doesn’t really cost a lot and can be considered as one of the more affordable options among the lot. Naturally, the more kits you buy, the cheaper it gets. In fact, you can get up to 100 swabs (for 50 samples) for just 49 Euros!

Bonuses

Unlike many DNA kits, DNA Kit ensures that its tests are suitable for both humans and animals. Not to mention, since cytobrushes usually collect more cells than mere cotton swabs (you can actually see your cells coating the brush when you take it out of your mouth), you should be able to get some great DNA results.

Conclusion

DNA Kit offers you a quick, affordable and easy way to get your DNA tested for a host of genetic tests, including ancestry, paternity and disease predispositions. This is especially true if you reside in any of the countries in Central Europe because you can basically get your DNA results within a week! The tests are non-invasive and you can even use the kit on your pets just so you can know their exact breed percentages.
